Success with Small Scale Flower Production

The March/April 2015 issue cover of Small Farm Canada includes an article descriptor, Success with small scale flower production.  The article entitled "Little Flower Farm on the Prairie" written by Edna Manning tells the story of our flower farm, Mistik Acres. 

We are pleased as punch that our farm's story is available in a National wide publication.

Tanya & Dylan September 2014

We were very pleased to be asked to be a part of Tanya and Dylan's wedding, which took place in Northern Saskatchewan lake country.

The following photos provides a glimpse of their special day with all photo credits to

Tanya and Dylan wanted to include bright summery flowers in their wedding day.

They drove out to the farm in August and toured the gardens picking out the flowers they wanted to include.  It was such a pleasure showing them around the farm.  It really is a unique experience choosing flowers from the gardens, that will be a part of such an important event in your life.

I received a lovely e-mail from Tanya the week after the wedding.

"I want to send a little note to say how grateful I am for the flowers.  Many people said they were the nicest flowers they'd ever seen at a wedding.  The bouquets were breathtaking.  Thank you for putting together such great arrangements and for helping us out with everything.  I'm so glad we had you as part of our day."

Cortney and Adam July 2014

Cortney and Adam visited the farm less than a week prior to their wedding to finalize the flowers they wanted to include in their wedding.  Previous to that we had corresponded via a phone call and e-mails.  Cortney had sent me photos of what she had in mind of the colour scheme and the look she was hoping to create.  The peonies would be perfect.

The bridesmaid bouquets consisted of white peonies, yarrow, allium, sage, green chockecherry berries and passion flower vine.

Cortney's bouquet included white and pink peonies, sage, scabiosa. ranunculus, allium, passion flower vine and green chockecherry berries.

Cortney added blue pins to her bouquet for something blue.

The table flowers were created by Cortney with flowers from Mistik Acres.

A few days after the wedding took place I received a wonderful e-mail from Cortney with a few photos of the wedding day.  Cortney's word's:

"I couldn't wait to give you a sneak peak and to tell you how much we loved the bouquets.  The photographers we had are super amazing and booked up every weekend.  They said that these are the nicest bouquets they have ever seen!!!!  I don't doubt it!  I had so many compliments on them and on the centrepiece flower's.  The picture of my bouquet in the vase is from the next day and it still looks like that!!  All I can say is wow and thank you so much for making our day beautiful!!"

Well needless to say this sure made my day.  What a wonderful compliment.  The following day I received another e-mail from Cortney with a picture of her bouquet and she said, "Here is one more from today!!  Still looks amazing!"

Meet Katie and Corey!

Katie had approached us at the Farmers Market in 2013 about supplying flowers for their wedding in July 2014.   They were hoping to source the flowers locally and the timing couldn't have been any better for locally grown peonies in the colour scheme she had envisioned.

Peonies are such a beautiful flower for weddings so we included white, pink and coral peonies from our gardens.  We also added in Icelandic Poppies, Sage, Yarrow, greenery and tucked in a succulent among the flowers of Katie's bouquet.  Bouquets were wrapped with ribbon and lace.

I do apologize for not posting regularly this summer.   It was a very intense whorl wind of sorts.  We had a very successful growing year.  Lots of firsts, including growing Dahlias's under cover, and hail damage, (of the ten years we have been growing, this was our first hail storm).  

Right now it is a white winter land with it snowing nicely.  The soil is warm at this time so it should eventually melt, I hope.  The moisture is very welcome.
